About Dr David Swartz
Dr David Swartz is a Consultant Gastroenterologist with a patient-centred approach, focusing on each individual rather than solely on symptoms or a disease label. Dr Swartz employs the latest evidence-based practices and advanced endoscopic techniques to ensure the best possible outcomes for his patients. He graduated from medical school in Western Australia in 2001 and relocated permanently to New South Wales in 2003. He completed his specialist training at Wollongong and Bankstown Hospitals and has been practising as a Gastroenterologist since 2010. To further his expertise, Dr Swartz undertook post-fellowship training in Therapeutic and Interventional Endoscopy at the renowned Duke University Medical Centre in the United States. He is the only fellowship-trained interventional endoscopist in the Illawarra region. After completing his fellowship in 2013, Dr Swartz joined the gastroenterology practice of Dr Chris Hatton, subsequently taking over the practice following Dr Hatton's retirement in 2016. He now works alongside gastroenterologists Dr Jeremy Humphris and Dr Dean Al-Hajirri. Dr Swartz practices in all areas of gastroenterology, with particular interests in high-quality colonoscopy and the management of diseases affecting the pancreas and bile ducts. In addition to his private practice, he holds a Staff Specialist position at Wollongong Hospital and serves as a Clinical Senior Lecturer with the University of Wollongong School of Medicine. He is an active member of the ISHLD colorectal cancer multidisciplinary team and currently chairs the ISHLD upper gastrointestinal cancer multidisciplinary team.
"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
