About A/Prof Daniel Carroll
Associate Professor Dr. Daniel Carroll is a highly respected paediatric surgeon with a distinguished career in both clinical practice and academic research. He began his medical training at Oxford University, followed by further specialised training at Alder Hey Children's Hospital and St Bartholomew's Hospital, London. His early career included working as a paediatric surgical trainee at Birmingham Children's Hospital, where he began focusing on neonatal necrotising enterocolitis, completing a Doctor of Medicine degree at Oxford University. Dr. Carroll further honed his skills in paediatric urology during a fellowship at the Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne, before being appointed as a consultant paediatric surgeon at Cambridge University Hospital in 2008. In 2012, he relocated to Townsville, where he was instrumental in developing the paediatric surgery department at Townsville University Hospital, including establishing a pioneering paediatric burns service. Dr. Carroll practises privately at Mater Private Hospital Townsville and has clinical interests in paediatric surgery, paediatric urology, minimally invasive surgery, continence, and antenatally detected surgical anomalies. He is also an accomplished academic, having written numerous research papers and contributed to several textbooks. Currently, Dr. Carroll is commissioned to write a textbook on tropical paediatric surgery, reflecting his dedication to advancing the field of paediatric surgery both locally and globally.
