About Dr Claire Baldry
Dr Baldry is an highly experienced Consultant Clinical Oncologist. She specialises in all aspects of non-surgical treatments for breast cancer, including radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeted treatments, and immunotherapy. She is dedicated to providing holistic care to her patients, taking into account their individual needs, concerns, and priorities. Patients praise her medical expertise and compassionate care. She holds a substantive NHS post at Weston Park Cancer Centre, Sheffield, and runs weekly clinics at Thornbury Hospital in Sheffield for private patients, with access to a dedicted private radiotherapy service through the GenesisCare network. Dr Baldry received her first-class undergraduate degree from Oxford University, where she specialised in cancer biology, developmental biology, and genetics. She won the cancer biology prize as the top-performing student in her year. She completed her clinical training in Edinburgh and was awarded honours in her medical degree. After junior doctor training, Dr Baldry obtained an academic training post in clinical oncology in London, working in hospitals such as Guy's and St Thomas', and Barts. During her training, she sat the examinations for the Royal College of Radiologists. She was awarded the gold medals for both parts of the examination, becoming only the third person to achieve this. Dr Baldry has extensive experience in systemic (medical) treatment for breast cancer. She has a busy NHS practice as well as working in private practice and is familiar with all treatment options for both early and metastatic breast cancer. She works closely with her surgical, radiology and pathology colleagues to optimise outcomes for all patients. She has produced new treatment pathways and protocols regionally for patients receiving chemotherapy. She leads weekly radiotherapy peer review meetings, continues to modernise radiotherapy practice via introduction of up to date treatment techniques, and is principal investigator on radiotherapy trials at her trust. She produces regional guidelines for breast radiotherapy. She has trained advanced and consultant radiographers in the management of breast cancer, in order to improve the availability and quality of post operative radiotherapy treatments in the region. She has also contributed to textbooks on the management of breast cancer and taught on a European course for surgeons. She spent six years as an examiner for the Royal College of Radiologists' oncology post graduate examinations. She is course director of the Sheffield FRCR course for oncology registrars. In her spare time she enjoys walking in the Peak District with her family, and is learning the violin.
"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
