About
Dr Claire Arthur graduated from the University of Dundee in 2004 & was appointed as a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at The Christie, Manchester, in 2014. Dr Arthur specialises in treating patients with bowel & thyroid cancers.
Dr Arthur is a member of several colorectal multi-disciplinary teams across Greater Manchester, including The Christie colorectal team. Her main role is to deliver radiotherapy to patients with rectal cancer. She has a particular interest in the use of radiotherapy to achieve organ preservation - avoidance of surgery - as well as the combination of radiotherapy alongside chemotherapy, prior to surgery, to improve long term patient outcomes. Dr Arthur is actively engaged in UK trials investigating the advancing role of radiotherapy in the treatment of rectal cancers. In addition, she was involved in developing national guidance regarding the use of radiotherapy to treat rectal cancers and is a member of the Greater Manchester colorectal pathway board, a group of specialists who are responsible for developing safe and effective care pathways for patients with bowel cancer.
As well as treating bowel cancer, Dr Arthur also treats thyroid cancer. This includes the delivery of radioiodine and supervision of chemotherapy for more advanced disease. She is a member of both Manchester and Lancashire thyroid multi-disciplinary teams, treating patients across the North-West.
