About Mr Christopher Thomas
Mr Christopher Thomas is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Vale Hospital, part of Nuffield Health, and at St Joseph’s Hospital in Newport. He specialises in primary and revision hip and knee replacement, the management of painful and failing joint replacements, and the assessment and surgical removal of benign musculoskeletal tumours. He offers conventional and robot-assisted hip and knee replacements using technologies such as MAKO (Stryker), and frequently performs day case joint replacements. Mr Thomas has performed over 150 joint replacements in the last 12 months, with a one-year revision rate of less than 0.5% as recorded in the National Joint Registry. He also has a strong focus on patient-specific implant positioning through custom guides, navigation, and robotics, and is particularly interested in improving peri-operative patient experience and recovery. He graduated from Nottingham Medical School in 2008 and completed his orthopaedic specialist training in the West Midlands. He subsequently undertook fellowship training in Major Joint Reconstruction in Perth, Western Australia, and at the internationally recognised Exeter Hip Unit. He also holds a postgraduate diploma in Orthopaedic Oncology. Mr Thomas has developed and implemented enhanced recovery and day case joint replacement pathways across multiple hospitals. He currently holds a consultant post at Princess of Wales Hospital, Royal Glamorgan Hospital, and Neath Port Talbot Hospital.
"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
