About Dr Christopher Malkin
Chris Malkin is a highly experienced Consultant Interventional Cardiologist based in Leeds, widely regarded as one of the leading specialists in his field in the UK. He has over 16 years of experience as a consultant at Leeds General Infirmary, one of the busiest cardiac centres in Europe, where he performs a high volume of complex coronary and structural heart procedures. Dr Malkin specialises in coronary intervention, including angioplasty and stent implantation for angina, heart attacks and acute coronary syndromes. Dr Malkin is a notable expert in advanced treatments for structural heart disease. His expertise includes transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), mitral valve edge to edge repair using MitraClip & PASCAL, and mitral valve replacement (TMVI) and para-valvular leak repairs. Dr Malkin recently performed the first tricuspid valve edge to edge repair and this programme is rapidly building The Leeds TAVI programme is the largest in the UK (>600 in 2025) and Dr Malkin performs more than 300 aortic valve procedures and 80 mitral/tricuspid valve procedure a year Internationally recognised for his work, Dr Malkin regularly travels worldwide to teach advanced valve implantation techniques and has performed numerous live demonstration cases at major international cardiology conferences. He is actively involved in pioneering new treatments and improving patient access to life-changing therapies, contributing to major international research studies and clinical trials focused on structural heart interventions. Dr Malkin trained in Sheffield, where he obtained an honours degree and later completed a postgraduate MD. In 2010, he was awarded a prestigious fellowship by the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society, which included a year of advanced training in South Australia. He was subsequently appointed as a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Leeds Teaching Hospitals in the same year. In addition to his clinical work, he plays an important role in training and mentoring other cardiologists, both in the UK and internationally, helping to establish new programmes such as non-surgical mitral valve repair services. His procedural outcomes are published annually, demonstrating consistently high standards of care. Known for a calm and thoughtful approach, Dr Malkin places strong emphasis on accurate diagnosis and clear communication. He encourages open discussion with his patients, ensuring they fully understand their condition and treatment options, and supports them in making informed decisions about their care.
