Dr Buthainah Al Shunnar is the Founder and Director of Al Shunnar Plastic Surgery clinic in Dubai. She is the first Female Emirati Plastic Surgeon and the sole American Board Certified UAE Plastic Surgeon. With a wealth of experience, she specialises in breast surgery, breast cancer reconstruction, body contouring, aesthetic facial surgery, hand surgery, microsurgery, and nonsurgical anti-aging procedures such as Botox, dermal fillers and platelet-rich plasma (PRP).
She obtained her medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland in 1991, Dr Al Shunnar underwent five years of general surgery training at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and George Washington University Hospital in Washington D.C (USA). She later completed her Plastic Surgery Training at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, USA.
Post-training, Dr Al Shunnar served as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon in private practice for three years in York, Pennsylvania, covering reconstructive needs for a major trauma centre. Simultaneously, she held an academic position at Hershey Medical College, where she mentored and taught residents and fellows. Returning to the Middle East, she assumed the role of Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Sheikh Khalifa Medical Center in Abu Dhabi for two years.
In 2005, Dr Al Shunnar established her own clinic in Dubai, focusing on cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, anti-ageing services, permanent makeup, and skincare.
Alongside her clinical work, Dr Al Shunnar is actively engaged in professional societies, she is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, and the John Hopkins Medical & Surgical Association.
