About Dr Brandon Baraty
Dr Brandon Baraty is a highly regarded Consultant Gastroenterologist with expertise in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), hepatology, and advanced gastrointestinal imaging. Since 2018, he has been a valued member of Sydney Gastrointestinal Specialists, where he provides comprehensive, evidence-based care tailored to each patient’s unique needs. Dr Baraty completed his medical degree with honours at the University of Sydney in 2009, before undertaking advanced training in gastroenterology, hepatology, and IBD at leading Sydney hospitals including St George, Sutherland, and Concord Hospitals. He was awarded his Fellowship to the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2017. He went on to complete an advanced IBD and IBD imaging fellowship in Canada, where he gained specialised expertise in transabdominal ultrasound assessment of the gastrointestinal tract. Dr Baraty is one of only three gastroenterologists in New South Wales accredited by both the International Bowel Ultrasound Group (IBUS) and the Australian Gastroenterology Network of Intestinal Ultrasound (GENIUS). He is also pursuing a PhD focused on this area, contributing to the advancement of non-invasive diagnostic imaging for intestinal disorders. Dr Baraty believes that a healthy gastrointestinal tract is central to overall wellbeing, and he integrates his understanding of the gut microbiome with his ultrasound and endoscopic expertise to manage both IBD and functional gut conditions such as IBS. Dr Baraty holds Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) accreditation and Conjoint Committee certification for gastroscopy and colonoscopy, with an above-average polyp detection rate. Dedicated to education and research, he actively mentors junior gastroenterologists and contributes to ongoing IBD research and ultrasound training programs.
"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
