After relocating to the UK, Dr Sekar completed his core medical training and earned Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in 2011. He pursued fellowships at top-tier cardiac surgical centres in the UK, where he gained extensive cardiology training and honed his skills in managing a wide range of cardiac conditions. He also conducted research at one of the UK's five transplant centres, focusing on advanced heart failure and heart transplant patients. His unique research in basic science among heart transplant recipients earned him a Master's degree from the University of Manchester in 2015.
In 2016, Dr Sekar joined the cardiology training program in Wales, primarily working at the University Hospital of Wales and Morriston University Hospital in Swansea. During his training, he obtained accreditation in echocardiography from the British Society of Echocardiography in 2017 and passed the European Exam in Core Cardiology in 2018. Dr Sekar has a strong interest in medical education, earning a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education from Cardiff University in 2018 and becoming a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) in 2020.
