About
Dr. Atta Ghassan, Head of the Neurology Department at Burjeel Hospital Abu Dhabi, is a highly skilled Consultant Neurologist with a career spanning over two decades across Iraq, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates. Dr. Atta completed his medical degree (MBChB) from Al Nahrain University in Iraq in 1994 and earned his Iraqi Board in Neurology (FICMS) in 2002. His expertise was further honed in the UK, where he trained in Neurosciences at Charing Cross Hospital and in Neurological Rehabilitation at Queen’s Medical Center, Nottingham University Hospital, and Nottingham City Hospital. Additionally, he practised at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and Queen Square Hospital in London, where he gained valuable experience in neurology at Hammersmith Hospital, managing cases of muscular dystrophies in children.
Dr. Atta has worked extensively in both government and private hospitals, beginning his career in teaching hospitals in Iraq before moving to the UAE in 2006.
Since 2013, he has been a dedicated consultant and the Head of the Neurology Department at Burjeel Hospital Abu Dhabi.
In his practice, Dr. Atta addresses a range of neurological conditions, including migraine and headache disorders including facial pain, neuralgia and weakness, as well as dizziness and vertigo, neck and back pain (spinal disorders), seizure disorders, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and other demyelinating disorders of the nervous system, movement disorders such as tremors and Parkinson’s disease, gait disturbances, and disorders of nerves and muscles including radiculopathy, neuropathy, neuromuscular disorders and myopathy.
“It was my honour, with the full support of Burjeel Hospital Abu Dhabi management, to establish the first Migraine and Headache Clinic in Abu Dhabi in 2022. In addition, in 2024, it was interesting to further solidify my reputation as an expert in Multiple Sclerosis through initiating and establishing the Multiple Sclerosis Centre at Burjeel Hospital Abu Dhabi.”
Actively engaged in medical education, Dr. Atta serves as a co-examiner and lecturer for medical students, contributing to the training of the next generation of physicians. His professional memberships include the Emirates Medical Association, the Emirates Neurology Society, and the Iraq Medical Association. Dr. Atta’s dedication to neurology is evident in his active participation in international conferences across the UAE, UK, Cyprus, Egypt, Morocco, Syria, and Iraq, as well as Spain, South Korea, Bahrain, and Austria, continually advancing his knowledge and expertise for the benefit of his patients.
