Dr Anja Malmendier-Mühlschlegel is a highly experienced specialist in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychotherapy with more than 20 years of clinical expertise across the UK and Europe. She is dually trained in Germany and the UK, holding full specialist registration with the General Medical Council as well as German Facharzt accreditation in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychotherapy.
Her clinical work spans a wide range of settings including outpatient and inpatient services, neurodevelopmental assessments and specialist eating-disorder care. She has extensive experience managing complex presentations involving autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), eating disorders, mood disorders, trauma and emotional dysregulation. Dr Malmendier-Mühlschlegel is recognised for her compassionate, evidence-based approach and her ability to support young people and families facing complex mental health challenges.
She currently works as a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist within the All-Age Eating Disorder Service for Kent and Medway and continues to undertake ASD assessments with the North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT). She also holds practising privileges at the Priory Wellbeing Centre in Canterbury.
Alongside her clinical practice, Dr Malmendier-Mühlschlegel is actively involved in medical education and training. She teaches on postgraduate programmes at the University of Luxembourg and serves as Academic Lead for Higher Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry for Kent, Surrey and Sussex, where she oversees the development and supervision of advanced psychiatric trainees.
Earlier in her career she held a number of senior consultant roles across Kent, including positions in eating disorder services, early intervention for psychosis, neurodevelopmental services and dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) programmes. She also spent several years leading inpatient services for young people at high risk of harm, where she helped develop specialist treatment pathways for eating disorders, DBT and secure-care liaison.
