About
Initially trained as a social worker, Julie later completed her training in systemic psychotherapy, specifically family therapy. Throughout her career, she has played a pivotal role in advancing Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in the regions of Devon and Somerset.
Julie is actively involved in training and supervision within the field of systemic family therapy. She serves as a supervisor for the University of Exeter's CYP-IAPT (Children and Young People - Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) systemic family practice program. Additionally, she holds the role of a clinical supervisor for the Exeter University MSc Systemic Therapy program.
Systemic family therapy is designed to support families by offering alternative ways to manage and understand their challenges. It emphasises improved communication, finding solutions to specific behavioural issues, and collaboratively working to repair relationships. Julie's therapeutic approach is inclusive and strengths-based, focusing on harnessing the family's existing strengths to facilitate the changes they want to achieve. She has the flexibility to work with parents, children, and young people individually or together while always keeping the family's well-being at the forefront of her practice.
Julie holds professional registrations with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), and the Association of Family and Marital Therapy (AFT).
“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
