About Mr Sebastien Crosswell

Mr Sebastien Crosswell is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, specialising in knee and complex hip surgery. He completed his Bachelor of Science with Honours at King’s College London in 2011, and his medical degree at The University of Southampton in 2012 with distinction. His early surgical training was undertaken during the prestigious Oswestry rotation, where he gained valuable experience in plastics, vascular, and orthopaedic surgery, as well as high-level trauma surgery at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Johannesburg. During his highly competitive Trauma & Orthopaedics training in Bristol from 2016, Mr Crosswell was mentored by internationally renowned surgeons in hip, knee, and trauma surgery. His outstanding performance in this period was recognised with multiple prizes for research projects, and he led several multimillion-pound research projects, with his work published in multiple peer-reviewed journals. In 2023, Mr Crosswell completed a 12-month fellowship in lower limb joint replacement surgery at the renowned Orthopaedic Research Institute (ORI) in Bournemouth under the supervision of Professor Middleton. During this fellowship, he gained extensive experience in hip replacement, hip revision, knee replacement, and trauma surgery, and served as an honorary research fellow at Bournemouth University, where he contributed to research on robotic hip surgery and enhanced recovery surgery. Mr Crosswell utilises a variety of techniques and implants tailored to each patient’s unique needs, taking into account factors such as bone quality, age, and activity level. All hip joint replacements are precisely planned using computer software to ensure optimal placement and sizing of implants, with surgical techniques focused on minimising soft tissue damage and reducing postoperative pain. Patient care is paramount to Mr Crosswell, who takes considerable time to listen, examine, and understand each individual’s medical condition, clearly explaining all available surgical and non-surgical options. For complex cases or second opinions, he collaborates closely with other members of his multidisciplinary team. A passionate educator, Mr Crosswell is dedicated to mentoring junior surgeons and training them to the highest standards, ensuring clinical excellence for the future of the NHS. He has been a faculty member on numerous courses and participates in quality assurance panels for trainees in the Bristol region.

"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
