He completed his surgical training and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2012 before completing a further 4 years of subspecialist training in Bariatric and Upper Gastrointestinal surgery in both New Zealand and Australia. This fellowship included a highly competitive two-year training program with the Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand Gastric and Oesophageal Surgery Association (AANZGOSA).

His surgical skills and procedures are carried out at Epworth Richmond, where he also maintains private consulting suites. Additionally, Mr Bassari holds public appointments with Western Health, encompassing hospitals in Footscray, Sunshine, and Williamstown.

Mr Bassari has expertise in a wide spectrum of surgical interventions, including: gastroscopy, colonoscopy, hernia surgery (such as groin or abdominal hernias), laparoscopic gallstone/gallbladder surgery (cholecystectomy), laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery (e.g., Nissen fundoplication), laparoscopic hiatus hernia repair, haemorrhoidectomy, gastrectomy, and oesophagectomy. In respect to bariatric surgery, Mr Bassari performs sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, gastric band, gastric balloon, duodenal switch and revisional bariatric surgery procedures.
