About Dr Rachel Hoyles
Dr Rachel Hoyles is a highly respected Consultant Respiratory Physician with specialist expertise in interstitial lung disease (ILD). She is based at the Oxford Centre for Respiratory Medicine and also sees patients in private practice. Dr Hoyles provides expert assessment and care for a wide range of respiratory conditions, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), lung infections, unexplained breathlessness and cough, wheezing, abnormal chest imaging, and lung scarring and inflammation. Dr Hoyles trained in Cambridge before completing her postgraduate medical education in London, with a focus around the Royal Brompton Hospital. In 2009, she took up her current consultant post in Oxford, where she has since established herself as a national authority on interstitial lung disease. Her clinical and research interests centre on fibrotic lung diseases, particularly those associated with autoimmune conditions such as scleroderma. She completed a prestigious clinical and translational PhD at the Royal Brompton and Royal Free Hospitals, investigating the mechanisms of lung injury in scleroderma-related lung fibrosis. This work was recognised with the British Thoracic Society/British Lung Foundation Early Career Investigator of the Year Prize in 2008 and was selected for presentation at the American Thoracic Society’s “Outstanding Science Symposium: Scientific Breakthroughs of the Year.” As the lead clinician for the Oxford Interstitial Lung Disease Service, Dr Hoyles heads one of only a few NHS England-recognised specialist centres for ILD, which is also authorised to prescribe anti-fibrotic therapies. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr Hoyles maintains a strong national presence in the respiratory field. She is a regular speaker at national conferences, has served on the British Thoracic Society’s ILD Specialist Advisory Group, and has contributed in an advisory capacity to the British Lung Foundation. Note from Dr Hoyles: Please book either via my practice manager at oxford.respiratory@nuffieldhealth.com (or 01865 307728 if email is not possible), or if booking online please also contact my practice manager directly so that we can ensure that I am a suitable clinician to assess you, and allow access all relevant information.
