Dr Rajagopalan holds Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP), the Royal College of Physicians, London (FRCP), and the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP), and European respiratory diplomat( ERS) reflecting advanced specialist accreditation across four major healthcare systems.
Clinical Practice & Experience
Dr Rajagopalan’s clinical practice encompasses the assessment and management of complex respiratory and sleep disorders, with particular expertise in:
• Interventional pulmonology, including Endobronchial Ultrasound–guided biopsy (EBUS-TBNA)
• Lung cancer diagnosis and staging
• Bronchiectasis and non-tuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) lung disease
• Tuberculosis (TB)
• Complex sleep disorders, including obstructive sleep apnoea and insomnia
• Chronic respiratory conditions such as asthma and COPD
He previously held consultant and senior registrar appointments at several major UK tertiary referral centres, including King’s College Hospital, University College London Hospitals, Barts Health, Guy’s & St Thomas’, and the Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals. During this period, he worked within high-acuity respiratory, interventional bronchoscopy, and sleep medicine services.
Research, Teaching & Leadership
Dr Rajagopalan is actively involved in clinical research and is a Principal Investigator for national and international clinical trials in bronchiectasis, NTM lung disease, and lung cancer screening. He currently serves as a site lead investigator for MRFF-funded bronchiectasis research and participates in multicentre therapeutic trials aimed at improving outcomes in chronic lung infection.
In addition to his clinical role, he contributes to medical education as a Senior Lecturer at James Cook University, where he is involved in teaching and mentoring medical students and junior doctors.
