About

Dr. Philip Hendy is a Consultant Gastroenterologist with a focus on luminal gastrointestinal diseases, especially inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), digestive health, and advanced endoscopic techniques, including colon capsule endoscopy (CCE). He graduated from Imperial College London in 2006, earning an MBBS alongside a BSc in Human Physiology. Dr. Hendy completed his specialist gastroenterology training in the Northwest Thames Deanery, London, furthering his expertise through advanced research.

During his training, Dr. Hendy dedicated three years to higher research at St Mark’s Hospital under the guidance of renowned mentors, Professor Ailsa Hart and Professor Stella Knight. His research on immune dysfunction in IBD and the gut microbiome culminated in a PhD from Imperial College London, for which he was awarded the London Northwest Hospitals Trust Prize for Research. Dr. Hendy remains actively engaged in gastroenterology research, serving as Co-Lead for Gastroenterology Research in Northwest Thames at the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and as Chair of the Adolescent and Young Person Committee at the British Society of Gastroenterology.

In his clinical practice, Dr. Hendy treats adults with a range of digestive diseases and operates specialist clinics at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, where he introduced a colon capsule service. His expertise extends to nutrition, gut microbiome health, and innovative approaches to managing IBD. His contributions to the field include numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and presentations at international conferences, and he has been involved in setting national guidelines through his work on various society committees.

Dr. Hendy is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) and holds leadership positions within both the NIHR and the British Society of Gastroenterology.
