About Dr Peter Mark Hickey

Dr Peter Mark Hickey is a Respiratory Medicine specialist with a passion for delivering exceptional patient care. He is highly experienced in diagnosing and treating a wide range of respiratory conditions, utilising the latest evidence-based practices. Dr Hickey is dedicated to providing individualised treatment plans tailored to each patient's unique needs. He believes in empowering patients through education and shared decision-making, ensuring they feel confident and informed throughout their healthcare journey. Training and Professional Practice Dr Hickey completed his postgraduate medical training in the Midlands and South Yorkshire, working in many local hospitals in his early years including Kingsmill Hospital, Royal Derby Hospital and Chesterfield Royal Hospital. For his respiratory training, Dr Hickey worked in the South Yorkshire area, training at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and Chesterfield Royal Hospital. Dr Hickey took up his most recent post as Consultant Respiratory Physician at Chesterfield Royal Hospital in 2019, and continues a full NHS practice at the Trust. His practice involves the investigation and management of a broad range of respiratory disorders, including but not limited to patients suffering with breathlessness of unknown cause, chronic cough, COPD management, bronchiectasis management, asthma management and the management of interstitial lung diseases. As part of his NHS practice, Dr Hickey took a leadership role from the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, providing leadership to both the hospital response, developing and providing an outpatient service for people suffering post-COVID symptoms, and supporting the development of the Derbyshire  post-COVID service at the time. For services to the NHS during COVID-19, Dr Hickey was honoured to be awarded the British Empire Medal by Queen Elizabeth II. Teaching and Training Dr Hickey undertook a research PhD as part of his medical training, through which he developed skills in understanding and translating the most recent medical research and development into his daily clinical practice. He also used this time to develop his teaching skill, having achieved Associate Fellowship with the Higher Education Academy. Dr Hickey continues to teach, train and supervise the next generation of doctors as part of his regular NHS practice.

"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
