About

Mr. Christopher Young is a highly esteemed consultant cardiovascular surgeon with a remarkable record of performing over 10,000 heart operations. Recently, Mr. Young transitioned from his long-standing consultancy at St Thomas’ Hospital, where he was one of only two surgeons qualified to perform TAVI procedures, to dedicate more time to his private practice. Currently, he serves as the senior clinical lead for cardiovascular services across all HCA UK facilities and continues his clinical work at London Bridge Hospital.

Mr. Young specializes in aortic valve surgery, with a focus on minimally invasive keyhole surgery techniques. His expertise includes:

• Keyhole bypass surgery (MIDCAB)

• Keyhole aortic and mitral valve surgery

• Keyhole aortic aneurysm surgery

• Keyhole heart rhythm surgery (in selected cases)

Mr. Young employs keyhole approaches in all valve operations and in over 80% of aneurysm cases, significantly exceeding the UK average, where less than 15% of aortic valve surgeries are performed using keyhole techniques.

In addition to his surgical skills, Mr. Young is renowned as an exceptional trainer, having educated over 400 clinicians in the past decade. He lectures internationally, conducts live surgical training sessions, and mentors younger surgeons, enhancing their proficiency and confidence in keyhole procedures.

Mr. Young remains passionately committed to keyhole cardiac surgery, emphasizing its considerable benefits, including reduced surgical impact and faster patient recovery. He states, “We can achieve so much through keyhole incisions. The reduced surgical impact is highly significant for patients, allowing them to recover their health and mobility much more quickly.”

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
