About Mr Brian Stephenson
Mr Brian Stephenson is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon who covers all areas of colorectal and anal surgery. He also provides treatments for abdominal wall hernias and bowel diseases, which have been characterised through anorectal bleeding. Mr Stephenson qualified in Medicine from the University of London in 1983. He undertook training in London, Leeds and South Wales where he developed experience in elective and emergency surgery. He works in a private practice at St Joseph's Hospital, as well as an NHS practice and has also established the Trusts Hernia Pathway which is used to improve patient care. He also has a surgical practice whilst working as a missionary surgeon in South Africa, and he continues to work in many countries providing groin hernia treatments on a charitable basis. Furthermore he has a more specialist interest in groin hernia surgery and he has written an authoritative review in hernia repairs. Mr Stephenson has also co-authored guidelines set for UK Groin Hernia treatments and the BHS consensus statement in managing groin hernia pain in athletes.
