About Mr Michail Chatzikonstantinou
Michail Chatzikonstantinou is a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal and General Surgeon practising at Blackheath Hospital and within the NHS at University Hospital Lewisham. He specialises in minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery and has over 15 years of experience, with a track record of more than 1,000 laparoscopic procedures. His clinical expertise focuses on the surgical management of gallbladder disease, abdominal wall hernias, and acid reflux, delivering advanced, minimally invasive treatments for patients across South East London. Mr Chatzikonstantinou completed his surgical training in London at leading institutions including King’s College Hospital and St Thomas’ Hospital. He further specialised in benign upper gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery through a prestigious Royal College of Surgeons Senior Clinical Fellowship at University College London Hospital, and holds a Master’s degree in Surgical and Interventional Sciences from University College London. In addition to his clinical work, he is actively involved in advancing surgical standards internationally. He is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences and serves on the Communications and Development Committee of the European Chapter of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO-EC), supporting collaboration and professional development across the field. At University Hospital Lewisham, he also holds the role of Lead for Clinical Governance, where he oversees patient safety and quality assurance, ensuring the delivery of high standards of care and continuous improvement within the surgical department.
