About Mr Khalid Akbari
Mr Khalid Akbari is a Consultant General Surgeon at University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire (UHCW), specialising in General and Upper Gastrointestinal (UGI) Surgery. His clinical expertise covers a wide range of benign UGI and general surgical conditions, with a focus on minimally invasive and robotic techniques for oesophageal and gastric cancer, as well as primary and revisional bariatric surgery. Mr Akbari completed his higher surgical training at the Oxford UGI Specialist Centre and was awarded the UK’s first Royal College of Surgeons-approved fellowship in robotic UGI surgery. He has held consultant roles at high-volume centres in Oxford and Birmingham, gaining substantial experience in complex UGI and bariatric procedures. Since joining UHCW in 2023, Mr Akbari has led the development of the hospital’s robotic UGI and bariatric surgery programmes. He has introduced advanced minimally invasive oesophagectomy and gastrectomy services, and regularly performs fully robotic bariatric operations, including cancer resections. Through his commitment to surgical innovation and excellence, Mr Akbari employs state-of-the-art techniques to improve outcomes and recovery for his patients. His work positions him at the forefront of robotic and laparoscopic UGI surgery in the region.
