Mr James Raymond Oliphant is a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon with extensive experience in the management of abdominal and digestive conditions. In 2023, he was appointed as a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon at the Golden Jubilee University National Hospital.

Mr Oliphant completed higher surgical training in the West of Scotland in 2016 before undertaking advanced training at St Mark’s Hospital, London, including the Wolfson Unit of Endoscopy. He then completed a fellowship in minimally invasive colorectal surgery at Concord Repatriation Hospital, Sydney. He was appointed as a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, in 2017.

His clinical practice covers colorectal cancer, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, diverticular disease, haemorrhoids, fissures, pilonidal disease, hernias, gallbladder disease and a wide range of digestive symptoms. He is experienced in advanced laparoscopic and robotic techniques, performing robotic surgery on the Da Vinci Xi platform.

Mr Oliphant was awarded an MD from the University of Glasgow for research in colorectal cancer epidemiology, receiving the 2014 John Farndon Prize. He was appointed Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Aberdeen in 2019 and has published over 40 research papers, including on robotic surgery innovation.
