About Dr Hugh Selsick
Dr. Hugh Selsick is a Consultant Neuropsychiatrist and Sleep Medicine Specialist, renowned for his expertise in the intricate relationship between sleep disorders and psychiatric conditions. He completed dual Bachelor of Science degrees, including an Honours in Physiology, before pursuing Medicine at the esteemed University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. Upon relocating to the United Kingdom, Dr. Selsick underwent specialised training in Adult Psychiatry and Addictions Psychiatry within the prestigious Maudsley and North London training schemes. He subsequently specialised the field of sleep medicine, establishing the groundbreaking Insomnia and Behavioural Sleep Medicine Clinic at the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine/University College London Hospitals. As the lead clinician of this pioneering clinic, he focuses on the treatment of insomnia, circadian rhythm disorders, nightmares, and related conditions. Dr. Selsick's experience also includes serving as a consultant in the Sleep Disorders Centre at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital. He has been instrumental in advancing the field of sleep medicine through his leadership roles, including founding and chairing the Sleep Special Interest Group in the Royal College of Psychiatrists and presiding over the Sleep Medicine Section at the Royal Society of Medicine. An esteemed author and editor, Dr. Selsick has contributed significantly to the literature on sleep disorders and psychiatry. He co-authored "Oxford Case Histories in Sleep Medicine" (2015) and edited "Sleep Disorders in Psychiatric Patients: A Practical Guide" (2018), in addition to making substantial contributions to numerous textbooks in the field. Dr. Selsick is a sought-after lecturer and educator, conducting training courses on various aspects of sleep medicine, including general sleep medicine, sleep and mental health, and cognitive behaviour therapy for insomnia.
