About Dr Edwin Ugoh
Dr Edwin Ugoh is a Consultant Psychiatrist with visiting privileges at Priory Hospital Chelmsford. He has extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of a broad range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, substance misuse, and dual diagnosis. His clinical approach is recovery-focused and collaborative, placing strong emphasis on involving patients in their treatment and supporting them throughout their recovery journey. Dr Ugoh is on the specialist register for both General Adult Psychiatry and Substance Misuse Psychiatry. He has been working in the field for over a decade, holding senior roles in both public and private healthcare. Since 2018, he has served as a Consultant in General Adult and Addiction Psychiatry within the Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust, where he provides clinical leadership for substance misuse teams in West and South Essex. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Lagos, Nigeria in 1993 and went on to complete an MSc in Psychiatric Practice at the University of Hertfordshire in 2010. He achieved MRCPsych status after completing his specialist training in psychiatry in London and Hertfordshire. He was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrist for his contribuction to Psychiatry. Dr Ugoh is passionate about addressing stigma in dual diagnosis and about improving support for individuals with co-occurring mental illness and addiction. He is fluent in English, Igbo, and Yoruba.
