About Dr Ravi Kamdar

Dr Ravi Kamdar, Consultant Cardiologist, currently works within the Croydon University Hospital NHS Trust, he is the Clinical Lead for Arrhythmia and Cardiology Clinical Governance for this Trust. He has a wealth of experience in all matters of cardiological issue, he is very skilled in adult general cardiology including arrhythmia, heart failure, ischaemic heart disease, hypertension, valvular heart disease, and cardiac device treatments (pacemakers, defibrillators [ICD] and biventricular cardiac resynchronization therapy [CRT] devices). Dr Kamdar qualified in medicine from the Medical College of St Bartholomew's and the Royal London Hospitals in 1996, before going on to doing his foundation training at King's College, Royal Brompton, and Hammersmith Hospitals. He then progressed onto his specialist cardiology training at King's College and Guys & St Thomas's Hospitals. He was awarded a fellowship at St Bartholomew's Hospital focusing on cardiac devices and arrhythmias. Following on from his training, he was appointed to Consultant in 2009. Dr Kamdar is renowned for his experience with cardiac devices and arrhythmia. He implants all types of cardiac devices, including conduction system pacemakers, leadless pacemakers and subcutaneous ICDs. He has been the highest volume implanter of complex cardiac devices at both King's College and Croydon University Hospitals for over ten years. At Croydon University Hospital, He developed a new service focusing on complex cardiac pacemaker and defibrillator implantation with follow-up. This service received positive recognition from the NHS in 2015. He has also developed a specialist multi-disciplinary arrhythmia team consisting of doctors, specialist nurses and cardiac physiologists, which has improved the investigation, diagnosis, and treatment of this condition for patients within the Croydon NHS Trust. His hard work was further recognised by the NHS, which awarded him a prestigious Clinical Excellence Award. Dr Kamdar is also an active researcher, establishing the Cardiac Devices Research Programme at Croydon University Hospital. He also actively participates in research as a Principal Investigator for several ongoing clinical trials. His research currently focuses on improving the response to Cardiac Resynchronisation Therapy and Conduction System Pacing. He is also an excellent teacher, training students and colleagues in implantation techniques for simple and complex cardiac devices. He is also the Educational and Clinical Supervisor for postgraduate junior doctors at his Trust.
