Dr. Ajita Kanthan is a renowned cardiologist known for his groundbreaking work in radiation-free procedural techniques. His achievements include performing the first radiation-free transvenous pacemaker implant in the country, establishing him as a pioneer in this specialised technique. Dr. Kanthan remains the sole cardiologist in Australia regularly performing this advanced pacemaker procedure. Moreover, he has conducted the first radiation-free cardiac ablations for both supra-ventricular and ventricular rhythm disorders in Sydney. As an expert in his field, Dr. Kanthan has earned a reputation as a national and international trainer on device implantation and radiation-free procedural techniques.
Dr. Kanthan completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of Sydney in 2000. He further specialised in internal medicine and adult cardiology at Westmead Hospital, completing his training in 2008. He later earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Medicine from the University of Sydney in 2013.
Dr. Kanthan pursued additional cardiac subspecialty training in cardiac rhythm management in Italy, under the guidance of Professor Silvia Priori at the Molecular Cardiology and Electrophysiology Laboratories, Fondazione Salvatore Maugeri, and at Monash HEART in Melbourne.
Currently, Dr. Kanthan serves as a visiting medical officer at several hospitals, including Sydney Adventist, Norwest Private, and Blacktown Hospital. He also holds the position of senior cardiologist for Sonic Health and serves as a senior lecturer at Western Sydney University.
Dr. Kanthan's primary area of expertise lies in rhythm disorders, where he specialises in the treatment of various rhythm disorders, including atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardia, and ventricular tachycardia. In addition to his work with rhythm disorders, Dr. Kanthan performs various types of device implants, such as loop recorders, leadless and traditional pacemakers, subcutaneous and traditional defibrillators, and bi-ventricular resynchronization devices. His pioneering work in radiation-free procedural techniques has significantly contributed to improving patient care and outcomes in the field of cardiology.
