Dr Parkes is a general adult psychiatrist working both in the NHS and private practice. She has been working in the NHS across Sussex and Kent since 2013 and before, she was a consultant psychiatrist overseas. Dr Parkes is trained in counselling and psychodynamic psychotherapy and works closely with psychologists and psychotherapists. Her clinical approach integrates biological, psychological, and social aspects to recommend evidence-based treatment options, thoughtfully tailored for each patient. She is also maintaining an integrative approach of mental and physical health.
Dr Parkes gained her vast experience in inpatient psychiatric units and community mental health services. She is now the lead consultant for forensic community services in Kent and an honorary lecturer at Christ Church Canterbury University. In the past, she held various NHS leadership posts, most notably in medical education and implementation of National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines, clinical audits, and service evaluation in community teams.
She has extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of a wide range of psychiatric conditions, including treatment-resistant mood disorders, psychotic disorders, personality disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), phobias, panic disorder and adjustment disorder.
