Dr. Andrew Kanawati is an accomplished Orthopaedic and Spine Surgeon with extensive expertise in spinal trauma, degenerative spine disorders, and deformity correction. Born in Sydney, Dr. Kanawati completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) with Honours at the University of New South Wales in 2006. During his advanced training in Orthopaedic Surgery, he undertook a Master of Applied Anatomy by Dissection at the University of New England.
Dr. Kanawati was twice awarded the Allan Frederick Dwyer Prize for Best Scientific Paper at the Australian Orthopaedic Registrars Association Annual Scientific Meeting for his research on sciatic nerve and femoral artery anatomy in joint replacement and trauma. His work has been widely published, with more than a dozen peer-reviewed studies featured in leading orthopaedic journals. He became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2017.
Following his fellowship, Dr. Kanawati spent two years in London, Ontario, Canada, completing an advanced Fellowship in Spine Surgery at Victoria Hospital, where he honed his expertise in microsurgical and navigation-assisted spine procedures. During this period, he also completed a Master of Surgery (MS) at Western University, focusing on 3D printing and patient-specific surgical guides in spine surgery—an area where he continues to contribute to innovation and research.
