Dr. Yusra Al-Mukhtar
Cosmetic (Aesthetic) Medicine · Liverpool
About
Her clinical journey began with an First Class Honours degree in Medical Science and management of healthcare organisations from Imperial College London, followed by a dental degree with Honours and Distinction from King’s College London, where she earned several awards for clinical excellence. She is a member of the Faculty of Dental Surgeons at both the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Joint Faculties of Dental surgeons and Dentists at the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
Dr. Yusra has worked in leading hospitals across London, including Royal London Hospital, Homerton University Hospital, and Whipps Cross University Hospital. Her work in oral and maxillofacial surgery included working within a team treating patients with temporomandibular joint dysfunction, facial lacerations, skin and oral cancers and patients suffering with trauma. She secured one of only two coveted oral and maxillofacial surgery core development training posts in London, working closely with renowned surgeons treat patients with skin cancers, congenital deformity and performed minor oral surgery. She then went on to work as a Specialty doctor in oral surgery and taught final year dental students.
This experience shaped her deep understanding of facial anatomy and aesthetics, as well as the importance of safe meticulous care. The exposure to patients with congenital and acquired deformity sparked her interest in the potential for non surgical treatment options to be used to treat certain conditions and concerns. She applied her skills to non-surgical care and teaches and performs treatments for a variety of conditions using non surgical treatment techniques.
Dr Yusra completed her teacher certificate for level 7 Ofqual training and works alongside leading training academy Acquisition Aesthetics. She went on to complete a post graduate qualification from the University of Manchester in Skin Ageing and Aesthetic Medicine. She is a key thought leader in aesthetic medicine and trains nationally and internationally sharing and demonstrating her techniques to medical colleagues.
Her passion for non-surgical facial rejuvenation emerged after years in clinical care both in primary dental care and in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery. Having had facial trauma herself at a young age after an accident, she understands the impact of facial deformity on self esteem. She has since been caring for patients who have mild dentoalveolar disproportion and provides oral & facial non surgical aesthetic treatments to improve the facial balance.
Dr. Yusra is renowned for her ability to enhance the harmony of the face. She performs thousands of non surgical rhinoplasties every year, treating structural deficits, deformities, asymmetries and a drooping tips. She performs non surgical genioplasty treatments to help those patients with mandibular retrognathia who may not be eligible for surgical intervention.
She takes a holistic approach to patient care, considering factors such as lifestyle, skin type, and overall health when creating bespoke treatment plans.
Her ethos is centred on professional integrity, ensuring that each patient receives honest, personalised advice that prioritises their wellbeing over any treatment. Her vision for each patient is optimising their confidence, and providing safe effective solutions that help her patients look good, and feel good.
Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Yusra is a dedicated educator and a Level 7 trainer in medical aesthetics, offering guidance and training to doctors, dentists, and nurse prescribers. She is a passionate supporter of the Safety in Beauty campaign, advocating for safe practices in the aesthetics industry. Additionally, she has conducted research on the psychosocial motivation and impacts of aesthetic treatments, further contributing to the field’s understanding of the psychological aspects of aesthetic medicine. She has worked alongside clinical psychologist Dr Alexandra Clark and Dr Lyndsey Hampson, as well as Psychiatrist Dr Hassan Yasin, to formulate a new tool to assess patients psychological wellbeing and impact.
In her personal life, Dr. Yusra is a mother of three and enjoys expressing her creativity through oil painting, having trained extensively with the London Academy of Art. She is also involved in charitable work, supporting organisations like UNICEF, and the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC). Fully registered and indemnified, Dr. Yusra remains affiliated with the Royal College of Surgeons and the British College of Aesthetic Medicine, continuing her commitment to professional development and patient care.
