Dr Vijaya Manicavasagar is a Senior Clinical Psychologist and Clinic Director, as well as a Conjoint Associate Professor in the School of Psychiatry at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). With over 30 years of clinical experience, she is highly regarded for her work with a wide range of psychological and psychiatric conditions, using evidence-based therapies and interventions.
Dr Manicavasagar played a pivotal role in shaping clinical psychology services in Australia. In 2009, she developed the Psychology Clinic at the Black Dog Institute and served as its Director until 2020. She was also Director of Psychological Services at the Black Dog Institute, where she contributed to the development of clinical services and education programmes for psychologists, general practitioners, school counsellors, and business organisations.
She is widely published in the fields of panic disorder and anxiety disorders, unipolar depression, and bipolar disorder. Dr Manicavasagar has a particular clinical and research interest in adult separation anxiety disorder and, together with Professor Derrick Silove, is recognised as an expert in this emerging and increasingly important area of mental health.
