About Dr Sarah Jefferies
Dr Sarah Jefferies graduated from University College London Medical School London in 1989. She joined the Royal Marsden Hospital in 1993 as a Specialist Registrar, after which she undertook a PhD investigating the role of genetic factors in the development of multiple primary tumours after an index squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck at the Institute of Cancer Research, London. Dr Jefferies completed her training at the Middlesex Hospital, London. She was appointed as a consultant at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge in 2002 and has since led service development for CNS and skull base tumours working closely with neurosurgical teams to establishment site-specific multi-disciplinary teams and NICE-compliant referral and treatment pathways. Dr Jefferies is committed to improving outcomes in brain tumours and is principal investigator for a portfolio of clinical trials in this field. She is also a member of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Brain Tumour Group and the National Cancer Research Network (NCRN) Brain Clinical sub-group. Dr Jefferies is also research lead for the Eastern CRN for neuro-oncology. Dr Jefferies has been instrumental in establishing molecular testing of glioma's which are now used in routine clinical practice. Dr Jefferies provides teaching on the management of CNS tumours for local, national and on European Society for Therapeutic Radiation Oncology (ESTRO) courses. She has authored over 50 scientific papers and also examines MD and PhD projects for a number of universities. Dr Jefferies provides peer review for a number of journals and was a member of the CTAAC committee from 2010 to 2015. She continues to practice head and neck and thyroid cancer delivering radiotherapy, chemotherapy and radioiodine therapies at Addenbrooke's Hospital.
