About

Mrs Abugreen graduated from Tripoli University, Libya, having started her career as an Ophthalmologist in Tripoli Eye Hospital. Following that, she went to Ireland for further training at the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital, Dublin. On her return to Tripoli she was awarded a scholarship to gain fellowship in UK.

Mrs Abugreen arrived to the UK in 1991 and trained at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast. In order to fully establish her career in the UK, she completed eighteen months of clinical and research fellowship in Medical Retina. During this period of research, she spent part of her fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital to gain advanced training in uveitis.

Having been appointed at ELHT in 2003 with a special interest in medical retina, she set up a highly successful service for ‘Treatment of Macular Degeneration' to cover East Lancashire and part of Central Lancashire. During this time she also ran in parallel the DRS. She held the role of clinical lead for seven years until 2010. The work that was accomplished by the ELDRS team was credited by winning the PCT award in 2009. Mrs Abugreen has a special interest in research mainly in the field of ‘Age Related Macular Degeneration.' She is the principle investigator. Mrs Abugreen offers a wide range of services but not exclusively, which includes high volume of cataract surgery, glaucoma management, lid surgery, the management of diabetic and other retinal vascular disease with laser and anti-VEGF and steroid implant (ozurdex).

Academically, she has been invited for local, national, and international speaker for AMD and retinal vascular diseases. She also maintains a strong link with Diabetic UK and AMD Group. She is an external examiner and visiting lecturer to Tripoli University, Libya.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
