About Dr Rupal Morjaria
Dr Rupal Morjaria specialises in medical retina diseases and cataract surgery. Her expertise includes the treatment of macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, central serous retinopathy, retinal vein occlusions and inherited retinal disease such as retinitis pigmentosa. She has extensive experience in all retinal injection therapies as well as retinal laser treatments, including non-scarring sub-threshold retinal laser. Dr Morjaria studied medicine and qualified from Birmingham University in 2005. She underwent her specialist Ophthalmology training in the West Midlands Deanery, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. Dr Morjaria then completed a 3-year specialist fellowship in Medical Retina and Genetics, working alongside Professor Susan Downes at Oxford University and later at Moorfields Eye Hospital with Professor Andrew Webster. In 2018, she was awarded a PhD from the University College London for her work on the impact of eye disease on sleep/wake patterns at Oxford University Hospitals. She worked as a Consultant in Medical Retina and Uveitis at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham prior to becoming a Medical Retina Consultant and the Lead Consultant in Retinal Genetics at the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre, the second largest Specialist Ophthalmic unit in the UK. Dr Morjaria is an expert cataract surgeon and has experience in managing all manner of cataracts in particular, management of cataracts in patients with co-existing retinal disease. These patients often require additional treatment at the time of cataract surgery. Her extensive training in world-class units has equipped her with up-to-date knowledge and expertise on current research and novel therapies and surgical skills to to provide outstanding care.
