Dr Martin studied at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, graduating with a BA in Physiology. They completed their medical training at Oxford University Medical School, graduating BMBCh, followed by Cardiology training in Edinburgh and Newcastle, specialising in cardiac rhythm management. During training in Newcastle, Dr Martin completed an MD at Newcastle University, examining genetic determinants of atrial fibrillation. Following training in the UK, they undertook a British Heart Foundation Travelling Fellowship at Hopital Haut-Leveque, Bordeaux, France. Dr Martin was appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist, specialising in heart rhythm disorders.
