About Dr Roisin McKenna
Dr. Roisin McKenna is a dedicated Clinical Psychologist with extensive experience in psychological assessment and therapy. After earning a first-class honours degree in psychology at Queen’s University Belfast and receiving the British Psychological Society undergraduate prize, she pursued a PhD at Queen’s under the supervision of Dr Kate Woodcock. Her research explored how environmental factors affect emotional and behavioural differences in children and young people across various diagnoses, while also examining the role of executive function and emotion regulation. During her PhD, Dr. McKenna published her findings, participated in international conferences, and conducted research trips, all while developing resilience and adaptability—even managing the challenges of raising two children during her studies. Following this she worked as an assistant psychologist in the HSE and as an associate psychologist in the NHS before completing her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at University College Dublin. Today, Dr. McKenna works as a clinical psychologist with the HSE Children’s Disability Network Team, The Adult Autism Practice and Mourne Private Clinic. In addition to her clinical work, she is a regular columnist for NI4Kids and Scotland4Kids magazines, contributing her expertise to support and inform communities about children's mental health and wellbeing.
