About

Miss Radhika Krishnan is a Consultant Ophthalmologist based in Southampton at University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust. She sees private patients at Nuffield Health Wessex Hospital and Spire Southampton Hospital.

Miss Krishnan completed her medical degree at the University of Cambridge in 2002, followed by her MA (Cantab) at Cambridge University in 2003. She undertook her ophthalmology training at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and in the Wessex Deanery, followed by advanced fellowship training at Moorfield Eye Hospital in London specialising in medical retina and cataract surgery. She became a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 2013, and was appointed as a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Southampton University Hospital NHS Trust in 2014. Also in 2014, she became the Clinical Lead of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Diabetic Screening Service where she served for 3 years, positively transforming the service. She received a Clinical Excellence award in recognition of this.

Miss Krishnan has a special interest and high level training in medical retina conditions including diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration and retinal vein occlusions. She has published widely in national and international peer-reviewed journals and regularly presents at national and international conferences in the fields of medical retina and patient safety. She also has expertise in cataract surgery and other general eye conditions including eyelid cysts, blepharitis and dry eyes. She has performed over 3000 intravitreal injections and performs both routine and complex cataract surgery and regularly undertakes surgical training of resident doctors in her NHS role. She also has expertise in retinal laser treatment and laser capsulotomy.
