Dr Prunella Gee
Psychotherapy
About
She practises as an integrative therapist, drawing on person-centred methods, elements of psychodynamic and existential therapy, and the 12-Step approach. Her therapeutic style is adaptable and responsive, tailored to each person’s needs, whether they are seeking short-term support for specific issues or longer-term work to explore deeper patterns and motivations. Her aim is to help individuals explore their perceptions, recognise unhelpful patterns, and begin to make meaningful changes from within.
Dr Gee has many years of experience working as an addiction and family therapist, conjoint counsellor and group facilitator in UK hospitals and counselling centres. Prior to her psychotherapy training, she had a long and successful career in the arts. Since 2006, she has run her own private therapy practice, where she continues to support clients in various stages of their personal and emotional journeys.
She is especially interested in the psychological impact of life transitions, with a focus on relationships, addiction, identity, and later-life experiences. Her doctoral research explored the psychological effects of retirement, particularly in men. She is also experienced in working with actors, creatives, and performers navigating personal or professional change.
Dr Gee holds a PhD in Psychology from Birkbeck, University of London, and a Master’s degree. She is a registered member of the Federation of Drug & Alcohol Practitioners (FDAP), holds National Counsellor Accreditation Certification (NCAC), and is also a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).
In addition to her clinical work, she has contributed to the field through published research and academic writing. Her work includes publications in the British Psychological Society's Qualitative Methods in Psychology Bulletin, book reviews in Existential Analysis, and contributions to edited volumes such as Case Studies in Existential Therapy. She has presented at national and international conferences, including the World Congress for Existential Therapy, and continues to contribute to the dialogue between therapeutic practice and psychological research.
“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
