About Prof Thomas Bourne

Professor Bourne works at 25 Harley Street in central London and at Parkside Hospital in Wimbledon. He provides an ultrasound based gynaecology "one stop" service with a focus on providing an accurate diagnosis and management plan in one visit. He also offers an early pregnancy assessment service based on the use of ultrasound. Often a normal scan is all that is required to provide reassurence that there is nothing to be concerned about either for someone with gynaecological symptoms or in early pregnancy. Tom is a national and international authority on the use of ultrasound in gynaecology, the diagnosis of ovarian pathology and the management of early pregnancy complications. He is Chair in Gynaecology at Imperial College London,  Consultant Gynaecologist at Queen Charlottes and Chelsea Hospital, and Visiting Professor at KU Leuven in Belgium. Tom sits on the management committee of the Tommy's National Centre for miscarriage research. He is medical advisor and trustee of the patient group, the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust. He is immediate past-president of the International Society for Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and CEO of the International Ovarian Tumor Analysis Group. Other than being busy clinically he has wide ranging research interests and supervises a number of Ph.D. students. He has edited seven books, published over 480 papers in international journals and furthermore is invited to speak at numerous international meetings on subjects relating to the use of ultrasound and diagnostics in gynaecology. Some of his current research interests include the psychological impact of pregnancy loss, diagnostic tests for ovarian cancer and the diagnosis of endometriosis. He is a co-founder of the AI based diagnostics company- Gynaia. Diseases, Medical Tests and Treatments • Gynaecological ultrasonography • Early pregnancy care - including the assessment of bleeding, pain, vomiting, possible miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy • Ultrasound based evaluation of abnormal periods or possible endometriosis • Emergency gynaecology • Rapid access diagnosis - concern about possible gynaecologcal cancer and in particular for the assessment of ovarian cysts and other pathology, and bleeding after or around the menopause • Routine gynaecology check ups (examination, smear and scan)
