Peter Neilson
Psychotherapy
About
Peter's career began at the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School in Minnesota, before he joined the Priory Healthcare Group as an addiction counsellor. His time working at Priory hospitals in London, Birmingham, and Southampton inspired him to focus on cognitive behavioural approaches to treatment. He qualified as a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist at The Oxford Cognitive Therapy Centre.
In addition to his expertise in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Peter has spent the last 11 years training in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), a NICE-recommended therapy for trauma resolution, which complements CBT in his approach.
To maintain his professional development, Peter attends regular supervision and training courses. These include Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP), Schema Focused Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
A core focus of his work is helping clients approach their difficulties with compassion while equipping them with practical tools to manage challenging emotions and circumstances. While his primary framework is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Peter integrates a variety of therapeutic techniques to ensure the best outcomes for his clients.
Peter has facilitated outpatient Mood Management Groups and Trauma Treatment Programmes, making him highly skilled in treating mood disorders.
He offers support for a wide range of conditions, including OCD, PTSD, phobias, depression, anxiety, and addiction.
“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
