About
Dr. Paul Gassner is a highly experienced Consultant Urologist with over three decades of clinical experience in both public and private healthcare. He graduated from the University of Sydney in 1990 and completed his internship and residency at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, before beginning advanced training in general surgery and subsequently specialising in Urology.
Dr. Gassner trained at Newcastle, Concord, and St Vincent’s Hospitals, followed by a Uro-Oncology Fellowship at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Adelaide in 2000. He returned to New South Wales in 2001 as a consultant urologist, establishing practices across Bondi Junction, Liverpool, Bankstown, and Nowra and holding public appointments at Liverpool and Bankstown Hospitals.
He is currently Head of the department of Urology at Liverpool Hospital and Sydney Southwest Private Hospital where he is on the Medical Advisory Committee. He also consults and operates at Sydney South West Private Hospital, Prince of Wales Private Hospital, and Nowra Private Hospital.
Dr. Gassner’s clinical expertise spans the full spectrum of urological care, with a particular focus on uro-oncology, including prostate, bladder, kidney, and testicular cancers. He performs open, laparoscopic, and robotic surgery, and also manages benign prostatic disease and urinary stone disorders. To remain at the forefront of his field, he completed a preceptorship in laparoscopic and robotic surgery at the Cleveland Clinic (USA) in 2008 and advanced training in robotic surgery in Hong Kong in 2013.
Deeply committed to education, Dr. Gassner has played a significant role in training and mentoring urology registrars, residents, and medical students from UNSW and Western Sydney University. He previously served as Training Supervisor at Liverpool Hospital (2009–2014) and was Chair of the NSW Training Accreditation and Evaluation Committee of the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand (2014–2016), representing NSW on the Board of Urology under the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He was also training supervisor at Bankstown Hospital for 7 years until 2025.
