He subsequently undertook fellowship training in sports surgery and joint replacement at Sportsmed-SA in Adelaide, Australia, and further dedicated knee surgery fellowships at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre in Bristol and Guy’s Hospital in London. He was also awarded a European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics & Traumatology (EFORT) fellowship at the University of Leuven, Belgium.
Mr Johal completed his MD thesis on the kinematics of the knee joint, research that has been widely cited and used in the design of modern knee prostheses. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and has presented at national and international conferences.
