Mr Sayal currently offers a wide range of procedures with a special focus on specific sets of procedures – procedures for degenerative spinal conditions (back pain, sciatica, radiculopathy, and myelopathy), minimally invasive spinal surgery (tubes and endoscopic), spinal deformity surgery, surgery for spinal fluid leaks and surgery for spinal fractures, tumours and infections. He also offers injections and denervation.
He performs the entire spectrum of simple and complex spinal surgery , including minimally invasive surgery and Robotic assisted spine surgery
He is a specialist for CSF leaks (spinal fluid leaks) / Spontaneous intracranial hypotension, and works with the Neurologists / Neuroradiologists to provide investigations and treatments and has specific expertise in the surgical repair of difficult CSF leaks: ventral leaks, leaks due to meningeal cysts / lumbar punctures, CSF Venous fistulae.
He is part of the UK working group for CSF leak / SIH guidelines.
He also performs endoscopic anterior skull base surgeries for pathologies such as CSF leak, chordomas and chondrosarcomas amongst others with the ENT surgeons.
He has a specialist interest in cervical deformity correction, metabolic spinal conditions such as MPS & XLH, Tarlov cysts, craniovertebral junction pathology, syringomyelia, superficial siderosis, spinal cord tumours and vascular malformations and minimally invasive spinal surgery.
Mr Sayal qualified from his medical school with numerous awards and medals for his excellent work. He then went on to do his specialist training in neurosurgery in the Yorkshire Deanery. During this training period, he performed a vast amount of procedures (over 1500) including operations for brain tumours, brain haemorrhage/aneurysm clipping, as well as complex spinal and skull base surgery. He also undertook the highly-respected prestigious Sir Victor Horsley Spinal Fellowship at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery – a joint neurosurgery and orthopaedics fellowship allowing him to hone his skills for all aspects of spinal surgery. He did an additional fellowship at Queen Square focusing on developing his skills for Endoscopic anterior Skull base surgeries and Complex Spinal tumour surgery. He was also chosen for the Traveling Fellowship by the British Association of Spinal Surgeons and was later awarded a prize for the Best Presentation at their meeting in 2015.
Mr Sayal is an active researcher who is often invited to speak at neurosurgical meetings around the world and has produced over 60 abstracts for articles. He is also an excellent educator, training Senior Spinal fellows and holding the position of Lead for Junior Doctor Education. He is also invited to give lectures on neurosurgery to a plethora of medical professionals at UCL.
