About Mr Nick Smith
Mr Nick Smith is an experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in knee surgery with a private practice at Nuffield Health Warwickshire Hospital and an NHS practice at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. Mr Smith has a specialist knee interest, performing all knee surgery, from biological reconstruction through to robotic knee replacement. He has one of the highest volume meniscal transplantation practices in the UK, as well as performing meniscal repair surgery, including meniscal root repairs. His special interests include knee ligament reconstruction (ACL, PCL, MCL, and PLC), meniscal surgery (including repair, partial meniscectomy, transplantation), cartilage repair procedures, osteotomy, and knee replacement (partial and total). He is trained on the use of robotic partial and total knee replacements. Mr Smith has a strong research background, having completed a PhD in meniscal transplantation and being the first person to conduct a randomised controlled trial on the subject worldwide. He is currently a co-applicant on a £1.3 million trial on meniscal transplant, and principal investigator on an international ACL trial (Stability 2). He is the lead on a number of other ongoing studies including: tibial slope in ACL reconstruction, cryopreserved cartilage repair grafting and return to sport after meniscal transplant. He has published over 40 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and review articles on knee surgery and is regularly invited to present at international meetings. He is also a co-organiser of the internationally renowned ‘Sports Knee Surgery’ meeting, run every two years.
