About

Mr Nicholas Haden is a Consultant Neurosurgeon with over 15 years of experience. He previously served as the Clinical Director of Neurosurgery at a regional neurosurgical centre in the South West followed by the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London.

Mr Haden completed his medical degree at the University of Cambridge in 1997, followed by his neurosurgical training rotation in Bristol and Plymouth. He later completed spinal fellowships in both orthopaedic and neurosurgical spine surgery. His training also took him to Leeds and the internationally acclaimed Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, USA. He was later awarded the Norman Dott Medal for his performance in the national Neurosurgical Examination.

In the South West, Mr Haden established a sub-specialist practice in various areas, including minimally invasive and navigated spinal surgery, intradural tumours, cord syrinxes, spinal dysraphism, and craniovertebral pathologies. His pioneering work involved the routine use of minimally invasive and navigated spinal surgery techniques.

At present, he offers comprehensive spinal care, addressing a wide range of spinal pathologies. He has expertise in minimally invasive and navigated spinal surgery along the entire spine, as well as expertise in the management of cervical and craniocervical problems, Chiari malformation, intradural and intramedullary pathologies, spinal cord dysraphism, cerebrospinal fluid leaks, and thoracic disc prolapses.

Beyond his clinical practice, Mr Haden has presented nationally on critical topics such as surgical safety and human factors in surgery. He holds professional memberships with the British Association of Spine Surgeons, the Society of British Neurological Surgeons, and the British Syringomyelia and Chiari Group, where he holds the role of Chair. Additionally, Mr Haden serves as the Clinical Lead to the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Committee for MSCC Guidelines.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”

— Mr Nicholas Haden
