Dr Natalie Chua
Psychotherapy
About
Her professional background includes working in specialist eating disorder services across inpatient, outpatient, and day patient settings in both the NHS and private healthcare. She has provided specialist care and consultations to adolescents and adults, as well as support for families and caregivers. Dr Chua takes a holistic and integrative approach, combining both Eastern and Western psychology to address the connection between the mind, body, and emotions.
She holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and a Master of Arts in Psychology and Education, with a concentration in spirituality and mind-body practice. In addition to her clinical expertise, she is a certified yoga teacher and a qualified mindfulness and self-compassion instructor. As a somatic psychotherapist, she integrates body-focused techniques into therapy, helping clients develop a deeper awareness of their emotional and physical experiences.
Dr Chua incorporates a range of evidence-based therapies into her practice, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), schema therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive analytic therapy (CAT), mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), compassion-focused therapy, and cognitive behavioural therapy enhanced for eating disorders (CBT-E). She works collaboratively with clients to tailor treatment to their individual needs, supporting them in reconnecting with their mind, heart, and body.
She places great importance on the therapeutic relationship, ensuring that therapy is a safe and supportive space where individuals can work through their challenges with self-compassion and understanding. She considers cultural and social backgrounds when developing treatment plans and integrates embodied practices to help clients feel safe within themselves. Her research includes a qualitative study on how individuals diagnosed with anorexia nervosa experience Voice Dialogue with their eating disorder voice.
“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
