Mrs Joanna Kate Barnes is a highly skilled consultant ophthalmologist with a passion for paediatric eye care and complex eye movement disorders. She graduated from Guy's, King's, and St Thomas' Medical School, London, in 2002, and went on to complete senior house officer roles in Cambridge and London, including neurology and neurosurgery. Specialising in ophthalmology, Mrs Barnes undertook advanced registrar training in Oxford before furthering her expertise through the prestigious Joyce Henderson Fellowship in paediatric ophthalmology in Perth, Western Australia.
Returning to the West Country, where she grew up, she joined Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton as a consultant ophthalmic surgeon. Her clinical interests include paediatric ophthalmology, neuro-ophthalmology, adult strabismus, and cataract surgery, where she is known for her meticulous approach and dedication to patient care.
Outside of her professional life, Mrs Barnes enjoys singing in chamber choirs, sailing, and spending quality time with her husband, a GP, and their two young sons. She brings warmth and compassion to her practice, combining technical excellence with a personal touch to ensure the best outcomes for her patients.
