His clinical interests include small incision cataract surgery, complicated cataract surgery and complications of cataract surgery.
Mr Poon graduated from the University of London in 1991, later undertaking his specialist training in London and completing a sub-speciality clinical fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at St Thomas' Hospital in London. In addition to the services he provides at Benenden Hospital, he also works with the NHS at the East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust as a Consultant Ophthalmologist.
He has been the joint Lead of Vitreoretinal Surgery at the Trust for the last 15 years, involved in researching new methods of visualizing structures in the eye to detect disease. He is a GMC recognised trainer and an honorary lecturer at the University of Kent where he supervises Kent Health PhD students.
