Orthopaedic Surgery
About
Mr. Briant-Evans specialises in hip and knee replacement surgery, including primary, complex, and revision procedures, as well as arthroscopic knee surgery, computer-navigated knee replacement, and unicompartmental knee replacement. He is actively involved in teaching, serving as a faculty member on both regional and national courses, and provides guidance to surgical trainees locally.
His early career included teaching anatomy at Guy’s, King’s, and St Thomas’ Medical School before undertaking basic surgical training on the Hammersmith Hospitals Rotation in North West London. His interest in hip surgery was fostered during his time at Exeter, a leading centre for hip replacement research. His Orthopaedic Registrar training was completed in the Wessex region, and he gained further experience with an AO Trauma fellowship in Denver, Colorado, and an arthroplasty fellowship in Auckland, New Zealand, where he honed his skills in computer-navigated and patient-specific knee replacement surgery.
Mr. Briant-Evans achieved his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in September 2012 and spent the following year advancing his expertise in joint replacement surgery. This included a fellowship at North Hampshire Hospital in Basingstoke and an honorary fellowship at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, focusing on complex revision hip and knee surgery and lower limb reconstruction following tumour excision. He was appointed as a substantive Trauma and Orthopaedic Consultant at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in April 2014, dividing his NHS duties between Basingstoke and Winchester.
He has a strong research interest in hip and knee surgery and has published and presented his work internationally, with a particular focus on metal-on-metal hip replacements. Mr. Briant-Evans is the Joint Replacement Rapid Recovery Lead Clinician at North Hampshire Hospital and The Hampshire Clinic. He continues to contribute to the field through teaching at Southampton University and the Royal Society of Medicine in London.
“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
