About Mr Timothy Barlow
Mr Timothy Barlow is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with subspecialist expertise in knee surgery, practising at Wrightington Hospital, one of the UK’s leading specialist orthopaedic centres. His clinical practice focuses on both sports-related knee injuries and degenerative knee conditions such as arthritis. He completed his pre-clinical medical training at the University of St Andrews, where he graduated top of his year, before undertaking clinical training at the University of Manchester, where he graduated with honours. His higher surgical training included placements at internationally recognised orthopaedic centres, during which he developed new knee treatment pathways that gained national recognition and awards. Mr Barlow has been actively involved in national healthcare policy and service development, working with organisations such as Versus Arthritis and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence. He completed a PhD focused on outcomes in knee surgery and decision-making in surgical care. His research work has been supported by funding from the National Institute for Health Research, and he has received multiple awards for his clinical and academic contributions. He is also a frequent speaker and educator at national and international orthopaedic meetings. Clinically, Mr Barlow manages the full range of knee conditions. This includes sports injuries such as ligament reconstruction, meniscal and cartilage surgery, revision procedures, and complex tertiary referrals. He also treats knee arthritis using non-operative management, joint-preserving techniques, partial knee replacement, and total knee replacement where required.
"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
